A little about me: A decade ago I started the culinary education programs of Life Chef to help people incorporate healthy eating as a part of their lifestyle, regardless of age, health status or income level. My mission is to make the world a healthier place, one plate at a time in a delicious, life-affirming revolution where we cook with joy, dine with pleasure and celebrate life!
2018/19 marks my sixth year teaching Cooking and Nutrition at Drew Charter School (PreK-6th). I work with the Farm to School and Farm to Early Care Center initiatives because I believe the cycle of seed-to-table-to-health when it comes to our food and our bodies should start as young as possible. I am also proud to support Michelle Obama's Chefs Move to Schools program to join the fight against childhood obesity by educating children about food and showing them that healthy eating can be fun.
I completed my Masters in Education (Curriculum & Instruction) at the University of Kansas in December 2016, and have posted artifacts from my work here on this site as part of my capstone portfolio, to illustrate how I researched and synthesized information to develop a plan for Health Education reform in the Prek-5 setting with a STEAM curriculum. My goal was to produce a Health curriculum that is relevant to students, and connects cross-disciplinary standards for meaningful learning opportunities in a learning environment that promotes positive health outcomes for students and families, teachers/administrators, and the surrounding community.
I graduated cum laude with a B.S. in Journalism from Florida A&M University, completed culinary school with top honors at the Art Institute of Atlanta. I'm also a GACE certified Health Teacher. My certificates include Lifestyle Coach for the National Diabetes Prevention Program through Kaiser Permanente; Fitness & Nutrition through Penn Foster University; Community Doula from United Way/Families First. As you can see I believe in supporting a lifetime of wellness all life stages of our community.
Besides cooking (and eating) I enjoy reading a good book and learning to play the cello. My husband and I have two boys and a girl! A true Georgia Peach, I am a native of Atlanta and love to highlight all of the gorgeous produce that is grown year round in our state, so don’t be surprised if your child tries to drag you to an early morning weekend farmers market!
